My name is Tom Smit, founder and maker behind TomSmitMetalWorks. I create handmade steel sculptures in my workshop in the Netherlands.

TomSmitMetalWorks started from my passion for working with steel and creating something unique from a raw, industrial material.

I have always enjoyed working with my hands — designing, building and seeing an idea slowly take shape. Over time, I became increasingly interested in using steel not only as a construction material, but as a way to create art.

What started with experimenting with shapes, proportions and different pieces of steel gradually developed into my own collection of sculptures.

I am particularly drawn to geometric forms, balance and clean lines. Combined with the raw character of steel and its distinctive rust patina, these elements form the foundation of TomSmitMetalWorks.

Every sculpture begins as an idea and is then individually cut, positioned and welded by hand in my workshop in the Netherlands. The rust finish gives the steel its final character, with subtle variations in colour and texture making every piece different.

For me, that individuality is an important part of the work. I don't want to create mass-produced decoration. I want to create sculptures that have their own presence — pieces that can become a distinctive part of a garden, home or architectural space.

TomSmitMetalWorks is where my passion for craftsmanship, steel and contemporary design come together.
